CLAS Recognizes Schools of Distinction and Announces 2023 Banner Schools

CLAS honored thirty-two Schools of Distinction and announced the 2023 CLAS Banner Schools during an awards luncheon in Prattville, Alabama on May 6, 2024. The event recognized schools across Alabama that demonstrate exemplary programs and service to students, with selections made from nominations by their respective superintendents.

Montgomery, Ala – May 6, 2024: CLAS recognized thirty-two Schools of Distinction across the eight State School Board Districts and announced the 2023 CLAS Banner Schools on Monday, May 6, 2024, during an awards luncheon in Prattville, Alabama. The CLAS Banner School program was created in 2001 to recognize schools in Alabama that showcase outstanding programs and service to students. Each school was nominated for this award by their superintendent with 240 schools nominated statewide. 

2023 Banner School Principals

Alabama School of Math and Science; Brookwood Elementary School, Enterprise City Schools; Gulf Shores High School, Gulf Shores City Schools; Orange Beach Elementary School, Orange Beach City Schools were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 1 with Gulf Shores High School named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.  

Abbeville Elementary School, Henry County Schools; Dale County High School, Dale County Schools; Randolph-Roanoke Career Technology Center, Randolph County Schools; Wicksburg Elementary School, Houston County Schools were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 2 with Randolph-Roanoke Career Technology Center named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.  

Pelham High School, Pelham City Schools; Pelham Oaks Elementary School, Pelham City Schools; Stanhope Elmore High School, Elmore County Schools; Thompson Middle School, Alabaster City Schools were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 3 with Pelham Oaks Elementary School named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.  

Hale County Middle School, Hale County Schools; Minor Elementary School, Birmingham City Schools; Ramsay IB High School, Birmingham City Schools; and Rutledge Middle School, Midfield City Schools were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 4 with Rutledge Middle School named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.  

Demopolis High School, Demopolis City Schools; Leinkauf Elementary School, Mobile County Schools; Rosa A. Lott Middle School, Mobile County Schools; Saraland High School, Saraland City Schools; were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 5 with Saraland High School named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.  

Cullman Area Technology Academy, Cullman County Schools; John S. Jones Elementary School, Etowah County Schools; Moody High School, St. Clair County Schools; and Parkside Elementary School, Cullman County Schools were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 6 with Parkside Elementary School named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.  

Brooks Elementary School, Lauderdale County Schools; Deshler High School, Tuscumbia City Schools; Harlan Elementary School, Florence City Schools; West Decatur Elementary School, Decatur City Schools were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 7 with Harlan Elementary School named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.  

Challenger Middle School, Huntsville City Schools; Huntsville Junior High School, Huntsville City Schools; James Clemens High School, Madison City Schools; Montview Elementary School, Huntsville City Schools were selected as 2023 CLAS Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 8 with Montview Elementary School named as the 2023 CLAS Banner School.
