Springville High School Principal Named Alabama's 2024 High School Principal of the Year

Dr. Gregory Deval Moore Jr., principal of Springville High School, has been named Alabama's 2024 High School Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals. This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Moore's outstanding leadership, innovative programs, and his significant impact on the school's culture and academic achievements.

Springville, Ala. – January 26, 2024:  Dr. Gregory Moore, Jr., principal of Springville High School in the St. Clair County School System, has been named 2024 Alabama High School Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP).

Dr. Moore's tenure at Springville High School has been marked by significant contributions, notably in establishing a positive school culture and climate. His ability to serve as a tone-setter, bringing infectious positive energy and passion, has been a cornerstone of his leadership. His presence is strongly felt throughout the school, from classrooms and hallways to lunchrooms and extracurricular activities, fostering robust relationships with students, parents, and faculty. Under his guidance, the school has seen remarkable improvements in attendance, academic success, student involvement, and a notable decrease in disciplinary issues. His focus on building a community that works collaboratively towards common goals has led to Springville High School being recognized as a school of Promising Practice by character.org. 

Dr. Moore has been instrumental in the resurgence of the "Tiger Code" at Springville High School. This initiative, focused on core values and expectations for students, faculty, and staff, emphasizes Truth, Integrity, Generosity, Encouragement, and Respect. This code has been integrated into daily school life, extending its influence into the local community. The program has been successful in promoting school pride and encouraging positive behavior and academic excellence. It includes unique recognitions like the Tiger Code Championship belts, turnaround chains, and tiaras, which honor students and staff who exemplify the code's principles. 

Dr. Moore's impressive educational journey includes an educational doctorate, an education specialist degree, and a master's in secondary language arts. His academic pursuits were undertaken at prestigious institutions, including Samford University and the University of Alabama-Birmingham. With 24 years in the education sector, Dr. Moore's career includes significant administrative experience. Prior to his current role at Springville High School, he served as principal at Springville Elementary School, assistant principal at Chalkville Elementary, and assistant principal at Pinson Valley High School.

Dr. Moore's selection as Alabama's 2024 High School Principal of the Year reflects his dedication to educational leadership and his profound impact on the lives of students and educators in Springville and beyond. St. Clair County Schools extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Moore on this well-deserved honor. 

Moore will be recognized at the Awards Luncheon during the 2024 CLAS Convention in June. He will also be recognized at the AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference in November 2024.
