Whitney Miller-Nichols Joins CLAS Staff as Director of Governmental Relations

With a background in education, policy development, and communications, Whitney brings extensive experience and a passion for advocating on behalf of Alabama's school leaders to her new role.

Whitney Miller-Nichols Joins CLAS Staff as Director of Governmental Relations

Montgomery, AL - July 17, 2023 - The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) is pleased to announce that Whitney Miller-Nichols will fill the newly created position of Director of Governmental Relations. In this role, Whitney will be responsible for advocating on behalf of Alabama's school leaders and advancing the organization's legislative priorities.

Whitney brings a wealth of experience to her position at CLAS. Prior to joining the organization, she served as the Director of Policy and Communications at SSA, School Superintendents of Alabama. With her background in education, communications, and policy development, Whitney is well-equipped to navigate the complex landscape of governmental relations and effectively represent the interests of CLAS and its members.

A native of Chelsea, AL, Whitney received her BA in Advertising in 2006 and MA in Secondary Education in 2011, both from the University of Alabama. Her diverse professional background includes experience in commercial real estate management, secondary classroom instruction, and the development of continuing education programs for school board members.

Speaking about her new role, Whitney Miller-Nichols expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "I'm excited for the opportunity to advocate on behalf of Alabama's school leaders. I've worked in public education for twelve years, first as a classroom educator before making the switch to leadership development and public education advocacy. I look forward to representing all members of CLAS and its affiliates in Montgomery."

Dr. Vic Wilson, Executive Director of CLAS, expressed his confidence in Whitney's abilities, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Whitney Miller-Nichols to the CLAS team. The Governmental Relations position was created to enhance advocacy efforts for CLAS and its affiliates.
