Brock’s Gap Intermediate School
Genius Lab

Principal: Mr. Scott Mitchell
Superintendent: Dr. Kevin Maddox
The Brock’s Gap Intermediate School Genius Lab served as a hub for creativity, collaboration, and community connections. It was created in 2021 as a collaborative workspace and experiential learning area for students. Through the support of the parent-teacher organization and grants from local donors, the Genius Lab provided physical resources and in-person programs that broadened students’ knowledge beyond the traditional classroom. Students used the space to work on class projects, participate in tutoring sessions, and for productive play. Community members were invited several times a month to share their careers, passions, and talents with students in a small group setting. These sessions allowed students access and exposure to careers and hobbies that were otherwise unknown. To date, over 400 students have attended a hands-on lab and learned from a “genius” in the community. The Genius Lab also served as a launch pad for service learning opportunities. Students organized and led projects to aid those in the area using their time, skills, and resources. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn something new every day, and the Genius Lab developed diverse skills and interests in students in a fun and engaging environment.
