Number Ninjas
Huntsville City Schools
Principal: Mrs. April Clark
Superintendent: Dr. Clarence Sutton

Number Ninjas is a one of a kind six-week math fluency program developed by the educators at Roger B. Chaffee Elementary School! Number Ninjas promoted collaboration with school educators, community partners, the PTA, and families. Number Ninjas also provided opportunities for families to practice math fluency using resources provided by the school and community partners to equip them in supporting their child’s education. Number Ninjas began in December, when math fluency flash cards were sent home with every student. In January students watched Number Ninjas videos over the school news broadcast. The videos helped motivate students to learn math facts and gave updates about learning progress! For the next six weeks students continued to practice math facts at home and at school and were tested every two weeks on fact fluency, earning a star on their ninja belt for each test passed. Students who earned three stars attended the schoolwide Number Ninjas Celebration where they ran through a ninja obstacle course, practiced martial arts with a taekwondo instructor, played games, and enjoyed snacks! Number Ninjas was developed to encourage family engagement in student learning, to connect with community partners to support the success of our learners, and to increase schoolwide math data to illustrate student proficiency in grade level math skills. Last year Chaffee Elementary had a 7% increase in ACAP Math Proficiency!
