The Agriscience program at Alma Bryant High School served as a comprehensive, hands-on educational experience designed to prepare students for college, careers, and leadership within Alabama’s diverse agricultural industry. Students participated in a variety of laboratory-based learning environments, including a small cattle operation, swine production unit, greenhouse facility, nursery and fruit-tree project, and an agricultural mechanics shop. Within these settings, students applied principles of animal science, plant science, agribusiness, welding, carpentry, small-engine repair, electrical wiring, plumbing, and turf-grass management. The 40×40 greenhouse served as a living laboratory where students propagated plants, managed irrigation systems, and explored entrepreneurship through plant sales and community outreach events. Leadership development was embedded through active participation in the Hurricane FFA chapter. Students engaged in Career Development Events (CDEs), supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs), livestock exhibitions, and community service initiatives. These experiences strengthened public speaking, record-keeping, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The program emphasized data-driven growth, increased student enrollment, and expanded credential attainment aligned with workforce needs. Partnerships with local businesses, feeder schools, and community stakeholders enhanced experiential learning opportunities and strengthened pathways into postsecondary education and agricultural careers. Overall, the Agriscience program at Alma Bryant High School fostered academic achievement, technical competence, and leadership development while promoting pride in agriculture and service to the local community.
