The Building, Electric Vehicle, and Aviation Technology (BEAT) Center at Fort Payne High School transformed career and technical education by delivering a student-centered, hands-on learning experience aligned with high-demand industries. The program integrated three distinct pathways—Building and Construction, Electric Vehicle Technology, and Aviation Technology—while incorporating emerging technologies such as electric vehicles and drone systems. Students engaged in real-world projects, including constructing structures, developing electrical systems, and building a fully functional electric vehicle, which strengthened problem-solving, collaboration, and technical skills. The aviation component provided specialized drone training, where students practiced flight operations, followed safety regulations, and prepared for FAA Remote Pilot Certification. Across all pathways, instruction emphasized project-based learning that mirrored authentic workforce environments, including mock construction sites, engineering challenges, and drone flight simulations. Fort Payne High School ensured that students gained industry-recognized credentials in building trades, electric vehicle technology, and aviation, increasing postsecondary and workforce readiness. The BEAT Center also fostered a safe, collaborative environment that supported innovation, teamwork, and critical thinking. By combining rigorous technical instruction with real-world application, Fort Payne High School positioned students for success in both current and emerging industries. The BEAT Center demonstrated a forward-thinking approach to vocational education, equipping students with the skills, certifications, and experiences needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global workforce.
