For many students learning English, the best way to grow is through authentic conversations and real-life experiences. At Meadow View Elementary School, the International Coffee Trolley gave students that opportunity. Each week, English Learners from kindergarten through third grade worked together to run a student-led coffee trolley that delivered drinks and snacks to teachers across the school. Students assumed important roles like driver, delivery specialist, cashier, rewards manager, and closer. Along the way, they practiced speaking and listening, read order forms, counted money, made change, and even followed maps to classrooms. The International Coffee Trolley was about more than just filling orders; it gave students the chance to interact with teachers and peers in a meaningful way while building confidence in their language and life skills. The Coffee Trolley became a favorite tradition at Meadow View Elementary. Proceeds from the International Coffee Trolley were used to take the trolley operators on a community field trip to a local park to participate in recreational activities that encouraged collaboration, communication, and community engagement. Interaction with the International Coffee Trolley continued to grow within the school and feedback from teachers and staff remained positive. Students excelled and grew language skills in each role they performed. Each delivery was a chance for students to learn, connect, and take pride in what they can accomplish together!
