Grand Bay Middle School

Power of ICU
Mobile County Schools
Principal: Dr. Todd Boucher
Superintendent: Mr. Chresal Threadgill

Grand Bay Middle School implemented the Power of ICU program to create a culture of student success using the formula: Completion + Quality Assignments + Healthy Grading = Student Success. Students were provided opportunities during the school day, including ICU lunch, blitzes, and enrichment classes, to complete every quality assignment and remain on track academically. These structured opportunities ensured that time and support were consistently available for all learners. The ICU List functioned as a live, online database that allowed staff to monitor and manage missing work in real time. When a student was added to the list, parents were automatically notified by text and email, ensuring consistent communication and increased engagement. This transparency strengthened partnerships between the school and families. Students were grouped and filtered within the system, enabling teachers and staff to collaborate and provide focused interventions that revived student engagement and responsibility. All assignments were aligned to learning standards, eliminating busy work and emphasizing purposeful instruction. Students were given opportunities to meet higher expectations through continued effort and support, allowing them to achieve mastery of essential skills and concepts. Grading practices were structured to reflect meaningful growth, ensuring that grades accurately represented student learning. Through intentional support, quality instruction, and fair grading, Grand Bay Middle School empowered students and ensured that each student was seen, supported, and successful.
