Interim Superintendent: Mr. Scott Collier

George P. Austin Junior High School’s Mad Scientist Hour was created to give students an exciting opportunity to explore science beyond regular classroom instruction. The school’s science teacher wanted to spark curiosity, creativity, and a deeper interest in how science works in the real world. While daily lessons focused on required standards and tight schedules, this time allowed students to slow down and truly engage. During Mad Scientist Hour, students asked questions, tested ideas, and learned through hands-on experiences. They were free to make mistakes, try again, and think like real scientists without the pressure of grades or time limits. This made student learning more meaningful and enjoyable. As the program continued, student confidence in their abilities was boosted. They worked together, shared ideas, and solved problems as a team. Most importantly, they developed genuine excitement for science that extended beyond the classroom. Mad Scientist Hour did more than support academic growth, it helped students see themselves as thinkers, problem-solvers, and learners capable of discovering something new.
