AASSP Selects Finalists for Alabama’s Middle School Principal of the Year

Montgomery, Ala, November 12, 2024: Three middle school principals have been selected as finalists for the Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year Award. Anthony Sanders, principal of Greensboro Middle School in Hale County Schools; Loukisha Brooks, principal of Wetumpka Middle School in Elmore County Schools; and C.J. Boyd, principal of Cleburne County Middle School in Cleburne County Schools are the finalists for this prestigious honor.

The finalists were interviewed by a Principal of the Year selection committee at the 2024 AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference. The overall winner will be announced in the coming weeks.

Each AASSP district selects a District Middle School Principal of the Year, and three finalists are chosen from these district winners. The district principals of the year were recognized during an awards ceremony at the AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference on November 12, 2024. This year’s district winners are:

District 1 Angela Hall, Fairhope Middle, Baldwin County
District 2 Sharon Spurlin, Opp Middle, Opp City
District 3 Anthony Sanders, Greensboro Middle, Hale County
District 4 Loukisha Brooks, Wetumpka Middle, Elmore County
District 5 Jenise Hampton, Montevallo Middle, Shelby County
District 6 C.J. Boyd, Cleburne County Middle, Cleburne County
District 7N Ashley Bowling, Florence Middle, Florence City
District 7S Joshua Gurley, Winfield Middle, Winfield City
District 8 Jamie Hill, Discovery Middle, Madison City

Dr. Vic Wilson, executive director of CLAS and AASSP, commended the finalists and district winners, stating, “These middle school principals exemplify the dedication, vision, and leadership that make Alabama schools successful. Their ability to inspire students, support teachers, and engage their communities is remarkable. The overall winner of the Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year Award will represent Alabama in Washington, D.C., as part of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Middle School Principal of the Year program. The winner will compete alongside other state representatives for the title of National Middle School Principal of the Year, showcasing Alabama’s strong tradition of educational leadership on a national stage.
