Brenda Box Named 2025-2026 Alabama High School Assistant Principal of the Year

Mobile, Ala. – December 4, 2025: Mrs. Brenda Sue Box, assistant principal at Mary G. Montgomery High School in the Mobile County Public School System, has been named the 2025-2026 Alabama High School Assistant Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP). The Assistant Principal of the Year program is sponsored by Virco Manufacturing.

With 21 years of experience in education and five years as an assistant principal, Mrs. Box is known for her deep commitment to fostering a positive, student-centered learning environment and her dedication to strengthening instructional practice. As an alumna of Mary G. Montgomery High School, she takes pride in serving the community that shaped her.

Mrs. Box’s leadership has contributed to increases in ACT scores, graduation rates, and credential attainment at Mary G. Montgomery. She has been instrumental in implementing a comprehensive intervention program that includes part-time support staff, math and English interventionists, and expanded Tier III services, ensuring that all students have the resources they need to grow academically.

Box has also played a vital role in launching a schoolwide character education initiative, VIKING V.A.L.O.R., which emphasizes Venture, Accountability, Leadership, Optimism, and Respect. Students participate in bi-monthly lessons developed by campus organizations, create videos supporting the core values, and are celebrated for demonstrating positive character. Mrs. Box’s collaborative leadership has helped weave this program into every part of school life – from classrooms to athletics to fine arts – strengthening school culture and community connection.

“Mrs. Box is a remarkable leader whose dedication, compassion, and commitment to student success make a profound impact on her school community,” said Dr. Farrell Seymore, executive director of AASSP and CLAS. “Her ability to build strong relationships, support teachers, and foster a positive school culture exemplifies the excellence we celebrate through this award. We are proud to recognize her outstanding service and leadership.”

As Alabama High School Assistant Principal of the Year, Box will serve a one-year term on the AASSP Board of Directors and will represent Alabama in the National Assistant Principal of the Year program, hosted by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
