Andrea Lindsey Honored with 2024 Dr. James A. Street Award at CLAS Convention

Mobile, AL – June 11, 2024 – The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) is proud to announce that Andrea Lindsey has been awarded the prestigious Dr. James A. Street Award at the 2024 CLAS Convention Awards Luncheon. This award, presented by the CLAS Board of Directors, recognizes exceptional service in the interest of administrators and supervisors, and to public education.

Andrea Lindsey, demonstrating the spirit of the Dr. James A. Street Award, has had a distinguished career as an exemplary teacher and as a highly respected member of the Baldwin County Board of Education. Her dedication and tireless advocacy for students, families, teachers, and school administrators have made a significant impact on the educational community.

Andrea Lindsey taught for 24 years at Daphne Middle School, where she became the chair of the science department. Her contributions extended beyond the classroom as she took on various roles at both the local and state levels. Following her retirement from active teaching, Mrs. Lindsey continued her public service as an elected member of the Baldwin County Board of Education. During her tenure, she held positions as both vice president and president on the Baldwin County Board of Education.

Under her exemplary leadership, the Baldwin County school district saw a remarkable increase in capacity, including the approval of nine new school buildings, twelve school expansions, an increase in counselors from 37 to 83, an increase in school nurses from 35 to 81, and an increase in social workers from 5 to 20.

Mrs. Lindsey has built a reputation as a committed and accessible leader, ensuring that all students, faculty, and administrative staff have an effective voice in the district’s affairs. Her advocacy has extended beyond the classroom, addressing food insecurity by founding the non-profit organization “Kidz Eatz,” which prepares and delivers nutritious weekend meals to more than 400 students in need.

Andrea Lindsey stands as a model of achievement and dedication, embodying the highest ideals of the Dr. James A. Street Award. CLAS is honored to recognize her outstanding contributions to public education.

“Andrea Lindsey’s unwavering commitment to education and her relentless advocacy for students and educators alike are truly inspiring,” says CLAS Executive Director Dr. Vic Wilson. “Her leadership and dedication have not only transformed Baldwin County schools but have also set a remarkable example for all of us in the educational community. We are incredibly proud to honor her with the Dr. James A. Street Award.”
