Greensboro Middle School Principal Named 2024-2025 AASSP Middle School Principal of the Year
Greensboro, Ala., December 2, 2024 — Mr. Anthony Sanders, principal of Greensboro Middle School in the Hale County School System, has been named the 2024-2025 Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP). The Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by Horace Mann.
Mr. Sanders, with 28 years of experience in education and 16 years as an administrator, has been the principal of Greensboro Middle School since 2011. His leadership philosophy centers on creating a positive school culture and climate that promotes academic success and personal growth. Mr. Sanders strives to inspire students to achieve their full potential while empowering faculty and staff to innovate and collaborate in fostering a strong educational environment.
Under Mr. Sanders’ leadership, Greensboro Middle School has implemented several exemplary programs, including the Greensboro Middle School STEM After-School Program. This initiative, supported by nearly $500,000 in grant funding, has established a STEM ecosystem for rural West Alabama, a VR lab, and competitive student teams that have achieved notable success in robotics and sustainability competitions. These programs exemplify Mr. Sanders’ commitment to providing students with innovative learning opportunities and preparing them for future success.
Mr. Sanders holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama State University and a Master of Education from the University of Phoenix. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his contributions to education, including being named Alabama Middle School Principal of the Year in 2020 and receiving the University of Alabama ACCESS Virtual Learning Administrator of the Year Award in 2022.

Mr. Sanders will represent Alabama in the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Middle School Principal of the Year program, competing alongside other state honorees from across the nation. This recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to education and serves as an inspiration to educators throughout Alabama and beyond.
