October Proclaimed National Principals Month in Alabama

Montgomery, AL – October 23, 2025:  Governor Kay Ivey signed a proclamation declaring October as Principals Month in Alabama. The proclamation was signed during a ceremony at the state capitol.

The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) submitted the proclamation on behalf of its three principals’ associations: the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators (AAESA), the Alabama Association of Middle School Principals (AAMSP), and the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP). Principals who are members of these organizations attended the proclamation signing.

The proclamation recognizes the important role that principals play in leading their schools and ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education. Principals are responsible for setting the academic tone for their schools, developing and maintaining rigorous academic and curricular goals, and working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to create a positive learning environment for their students.

“Our principals and assistant principals lead with courage, compassion, and vision every single day,” said CLAS Executive Director Dr. Farrell Seymore. “They carry the responsibility of shaping school culture, supporting educators, and guiding students toward success. This month, and every month, we honor their unwavering dedication to Alabama’s schools and communities.”

October is National Principals Month, which is an annual recognition program sponsored by the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
