Holly Hill Elementary’s Stephen Phillips Named Alabama’s NAESP National Outstanding Elementary Assistant Principal
Enterprise, Ala., January 31, 2025 – The Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators (AAESA) and Publishers’ Warehouse have named Stephen Phillips, assistant principal of Holly Hill Elementary School in the Enterprise City School System, as Alabama’s NAESP National Outstanding Elementary Assistant Principal. This prestigious program is sponsored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) to recognize assistant principals who demonstrate excellence in their roles and significantly contribute to the educational experience of their students. Mr. Phillips was recognized during a special presentation at Holly Hill Elementary School on January 31, 2025.
Mr. Phillips, who has served as assistant principal at Holly Hill Elementary for nearly two years, was selected for his exceptional leadership, dedication to fostering academic success, and commitment to the well-being of students. Among his notable accomplishments are his contributions to Holly Hill’s state report card score improvement and the development of student-centered initiatives.
Under Mr. Phillips’ leadership, Holly Hill Elementary achieved a 97 on the 2023–2024 state report card, maintaining a 100 in academic growth and significantly reducing chronic absenteeism. His efforts to enhance the Response to Intervention (RTI) process, improve school safety protocols, and mentor new teachers have further strengthened the school’s capacity to support every student’s success.

About the NAESP National Outstanding Assistant Principal Award: The National Association of Elementary School Principals is committed to preparing assistant principals to step into the principal role. They want to honor assistant principals who are doing a superb job in their roles. The NOAP program promotes educational excellence for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade (Pre-K-8) schooling and calls attention to the fundamental importance of the assistant principal. NAESP will share their successes and best practices in a practical document for other principals to utilize.
