Alabama Literacy Act (ALA) Updates: Preparing for Summer Reading Camps, Reporting, and Planning for Summer Professional Development

The purpose of this session is to closely examine Alabama’s Journey to Reading Success as a process for assisting LEAs and schools in implementing the Alabama Literacy Act. Participants will explore alignment among the areas of Collaborative Leadership, Assessment, Standards and Curriculum, Instruction and Intervention, and Professional Learning related to the Alabama Literacy Act.  Discussions will center around the roles and responsibilities for multiple stakeholders including State Superintendent, ALSDE, local reading specialists, regional literacy specialists, educator preparation programs, and LEAs, as well as tools to gauge the effectiveness of current implementation processes.

Building Meaningful Pathways for ALL Students

This session will assist curriculum directors, counseling coordinators, school counselors, and building administrators in planning for the implementation of the Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics, 2019.  participants will explore a variety of meaningful mathematics pathways--including Grade 7/Grade 8 Accelerated Mathematics, SREB High School and College Ready courses, and how mathematics laboratory courses can be utilized to help address skills gaps in mathematics. Other mathematics-credit eligible courses from Career and Technical Education, including embedded credit, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, postsecondary courses will also be discussed.

Alabama Coaching Framework: A Statewide Approach to Instructional Coaching

The purpose of this session is to help local school district leaders understand how the new Alabama Coaching Framework brings together the whole Division of Instruction and more effectively provide support. The Alabama Coaching Framework outlines the roles and responsibilities for state coaches, regional coaches, leadership coaches, and local instructional coaches. Participants will learn how to use the framework at the district level to unify support and define coaching expectations.

Alabama’s Plan to Move EL Forward

Throughout the state of Alabama, EL students underperform their peers in both Reading and Math. Thus, the Alabama EL Framework, grounded in research, has been developed to build an effective system to support districts in improving EL instruction. During this session, participants will learn objectives, components, and timelines of the framework, and implications for LEAs.

One-Stop Shop to Prepare Your Students for the ACAP

The purpose of this session is to provide an overview of the ACAP Instructional Supports, Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs), and item specifications to prepare students for the ACAP. Through the implementation of the ACAP resources and proficiency scales educators will leave this session with the skills and resources to effectively individualize lessons and instruction. Students will not know the difference between a normal class day and an ACAP review day!

Mathematics Textbook Adoption Updates 

The purpose of this session is to provide updates for the mathematics textbook adoption to help local school districts utilize additional tools to select high quality instructional materials. The session will provide resources to help local school districts in the selection of textbooks using the state textbook adoption process evaluations, rubrics, and other tools.

Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics, 2019 Professional Learning 

The purpose of this session is to provide an overview of the new structures for Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics, 2019 implementation professional learning. Participants will also have a sneak peek at new resources developed by AMSTI that will support and help bridge any skills gaps of students with Algebra and Geometry concepts. Presenters will demonstrate how the Early Assessments data can be used to help bridge skills gaps.
