The Lion Pride Conference has greatly improved the culture at Foley High School (FHS) by addressing the areas of academics, attendance, and behavior, as well as by providing recognition and incentives for students and faculty. The campus divided into eight different teams which consisted of faculty, staff, and a mix of grade-level students. Students and faculty earned points through academics, attendance, behavior, and special events. Students met one-on-one with homeroom teachers every three weeks to discuss personal progress. Teachers documented students’ grades and attendance in a shared spreadsheet which calculated team points. Each grading quarter, the faculty and staff gave positive behavior referrals to students. These referrals earned five points for each student and were highlighted on the school’s social media accounts. Team members contributed to team points by attending special events such as school sporting and fine art events, Saturday ACT prep sessions, faculty chili cookoff, “Leo” on the shelf Christmas event, and weekly team trivia. The three teams with the most points at the end of each quarter were awarded with a celebratory incentive. These incentives included pizza, nachos, cookouts, an ice cream social, and a day at the bowling alley.
