Alabama Recognizes Principals

Montgomery, AL, October 29, 2019 – Principals Month is being celebrated throughout Alabama during the month of October.

The Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools invites residents all over the state to join them in recognizing the essential role that principals play in school achievement and student success.

“Studies show that principal leadership is second only to strong instruction when it comes to impacting student achievement. October is a month to celebrate the hard work and dedication of principals across Alabama,” said Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools Executive Director Vic Wilson.

Parents, teachers, students, and school systems have all taken the time to honor their principals and celebrate the great work principals do every day. Principals have been showing state and local elected officials the numerous ways that good principals enhance their school communities, by hosting shadowing visits. Shadowing visits provide opportunities for policymakers and members of Congress to experience firsthand the role and responsibilities of principals and the needs of public schools.

Governor Kay Ivey signed a proclamation announcing October as Principals Month on October 24, 2019. Principal leaders and CLAS members from around the state were present to accept the proclamation.

National Principals Month is an initiative of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).
