DESCRIPTION:Discipline of Students with Disabilities\nThe General Rules of Discipline of Students with Disabilities and their Practical Application\nPresented by: Julie Weatherly\n9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. \n(Lunch on your own 11:00 – 12:30) \nSign-In begins at 8:00 a.m. \nOne of the most challenging issues that public school educators face in the area of special education law is discipline. The laws and rules are complex and\, in some instances\, seem to be unworkable and unrealistic considering the significant increase in mental health issues and dangerous behaviors seen in schools. Join Julie Weatherly\, Esq. in this Institute to first define and address the “General Rules of Discipline” for students with disabilities\, specifically the use of suspension\, expulsion and other disciplinary removals under federal law and the AAC\, primarily IDEA and Section 504. Once a foundational understanding of the General Rules is in place\, Julie will address the practical application of these Rules based upon frequently asked questions and common scenarios. \nAll Leadership Institutes are in-person events only.
