Adam Clemons Named Alabama's 2020 High School Principal of the Year

Dr. Adam Clemons, principal of Piedmont High School in the Piedmont City School System, has been named 2020 Alabama Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP).

Piedmont, Ala – January 21, 2020:  Dr. Adam Clemons, principal of Piedmont High School in the Piedmont City School System, has been named 2020 Alabama Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP). Clemons will represent the state of Alabama in a national judging of school leaders in the National Principal of the Year Program sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). 

Adam Clemons has 19 years of experience in the field of education with the last 12 years served as an administrator. In 2013, Clemons was chosen as the principal of Piedmont High School. In his educational career, he has had the roles of teacher, department head, assistant principal, and principal. Clemons received his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University, a master’s degree from Jacksonville State University, and his education specialist and doctorate from Argosy University.

The Principal of the Year Award was announced in a surprise assembly at Piedmont High School on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Clemons wife and five children were in attendance as well as the student body of Piedmont High School, Amy Moman and Joe Feese from award sponsor American Fidelity Assurance, Dan Chappell from Interior Elements, Piedmont City Schools Superintendent Mike Hayes, and State Board of Education District 6 Member Dr. Cynthia McCarty.

“On behalf of Piedmont City Schools staff and students, I would like to congratulate Dr. Adam Clemons on being selected as the CLAS Principal of the Year for the 2020 school year.  Adam continuously has the best interest of his students and staff members at the forefront of every decision made as Piedmont High School's principal,” commented Piedmont City Schools Superintendent Mike Hayes.  “He sets a positive example in all school related activities and is a tremendous role model for both students and staff.  In short, Piedmont City Schools is a better school system because of Adam Clemons!”

“Dr. Clemons is known for being an exceptional leader. Being chosen for this award only confirms what we, in the education field, already knew. I was thrilled to be a part of the award ceremony. The energy and support from the Piedmont community further confirms his selection for Principal of the Year. He will serve as an excellent example for other principals in the state,” said CLAS Executive Director Dr. Vic Wilson.

The Alabama Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals and American Fidelity Assurance. A trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in the NASSP Principal of the Year Awards Program is provided by AASSP.  Additionally, an office makeover is provided by Interior Elements.

Clemons will be recognized at the Awards Luncheon during the CLAS Convention on June 16, 2020, at the Montgomery Renaissance.  The CLAS Annual Summer Convention is the largest gathering of school leaders in the state of Alabama.  He will also be recognized at the AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference in November 2020.
