Sparkman High School Principal Named District 8 High School Principal of the Year

Harvest, Ala:  Mr. Chris Shaw, principal of Sparkman High School, has been named District 8 High School Principal of the Year.

Chris Shaw is entering his fifth year as principal at Sparkman High School and his fourteenth year as a high school principal. Mr. Shaw is a graduate of Homewood High School near Birmingham, Alabama. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Alabama in Secondary Education, while also receiving his Educational Leadership degree from Alabama State University. He earned his educational specialist's degree with honors in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.

Sparkman High School was recently named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and as one of the top schools in the state of Alabama consistently ranked by US News and World Report. As principal at Sparkman High School, the school increased the graduation rate, and raised ACT scores well above the state average.

“It is an honor and privilege to be named AASSP District 8 High School Principal of the Year. All the credit goes to the teachers, staff, and the students which have made Sparkman High School one of the best schools in the state of Alabama,” Mr. Shaw expressed.

Each of the eight Alabama Association of Secondary School Principal (AASSP) districts nominate a principal within their district for the award. Shaw will be interviewed by a selection committee at the 2019 AASSP/AAMSP Fall Conference, November 10-13, where the top three finalists will be announced. The winner of Alabama’s High School Principal of the Year award will be named in January.

The Alabama High School Principal of the Year Award is sponsored by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals and American Fidelity.
