Improving Instruction with Alabama’s Teacher Growth Program Overview  

In this session, facilitators will provide a “big picture” overview of ALSDE’s historical landscape of observation systems; and the “What, Why, When, and How” to implement the new ATGP.  Presenters will utilize the ATGP Orientation Manual to highlight some of the ATGP components, including the Self-Assessment, the Alabama Teacher Observation Tool (ATOT), a Professional Learning Plan (PLP), and a Professional Practice Diagnostic (optional).  Participants will have a chance to learn more about the implementation of the new formative teacher growth system, what it is comprised of, how it is being implemented, and the timeline.  Following the presentation, there will be time for questions and answers.

Behavioral Management and Mental Health Best Practices

This one hour session will provide an overview of ALSDE updates in the areas of behavioral and foundational wellness including mental health, opt-in , BCBAs, Tier I behavioral strategies, and foundational wellness within the AL-MTSS framework. Participants will learn how to incorporate proactive supports within the school and classroom to support all students.

Paddling in the Same Direction: An Overview of the Textbook Adoption Process - For those earning a PLU

For a boat to move forward, everyone has to be paddling in the same direction!  The same is true for leading & facilitating the textbook adoption process in your school district. The session will offer an overview of the legalities & best practices associated with district textbook adoption. The presentation will touch on areas like committee formation & leadership, state vs local processes, budgeting, timelines, & more. This presentation will also serve as session 1 of 3 to earn an ACLD PLU (#273745, section #458816) - so register for the PLU if you would like to - or just attend this one session for the content. If desiring the PLU, sessions #2 & #3 will be at the AASCD Winter Conference (Jan. 23 & 24) & the AASCD Winter Bootcamp on Feb. 28.
